Simple ways to style your living room
If you’d like to give your living room a little more love, here are 5 simple ways styling can help you improve your space. It’s proof that you don’t need to go out and buy a whole heap of new ‘stuff’ to create beauty at home. Instead, styling is knowing how to make the most of what you’ve got and love.
Simple stacks — Coffee tables don’t have to be overloaded with a million accessories. Instead, opt for a few large-format books that will create impact. The trick is to stack them to create depth. Always make sure that the bottom book is bigger than the one on top.
Bring furniture off the wall — Avoid sofas and chairs pushed up against the wall as it creates a dead zone in the centre of your room, which is where you want to create a sense of intimacy.
Introduce sculptural objects — Offset all of the boxy shapes in a living room (sofas, rugs, etc) and create visual interest and variety through the use of plants, foliage, hanging pendants, etc.
Odd groupings — When displaying objects embrace odds over evens for a harmonious yet casual effect. Try three vases of varying sizes or three cushions on the sofa instead of four.
Remove one object — Styling is as much about what you edit out of a space as what you add. Make sure everything is there for a reason.
Also, practice, experiment and have fun until it feels right!
