On the podcast, Nat shares her journey from working as a graphic designer to getting her start as a property stylist, and what she learned from the process of transforming her side hustle into a thriving business.
If you’re curious what interior styling is really about, and how you can turn it into a successful career, come listen to Nat’s interview on the Imprint podcast here.
What words would you say best describe you?
Ambitious, creative, impatient, caring, deadline-driven.
What’s the best life or career lesson you’ve learned?
Learning to say no to the wrong jobs so the right jobs could find their way in.
What's your proudest achievement?
I still get that really excited feeling seeing my photos in print. It's just hard to explain. That and probably doing the workshops. I didn't have much confidence growing up, so actually going out and running my own workshops has been a huge thing for me. I just thought it was something I would never be able to do.
What’s been your best decision?
To actually give The Palm Co a go. I could still be working as a property stylist or working for someone else had I not actually just taken the risk. So I’d say betting on myself and actually giving The Palm Co a proper chance.
Who inspires you?
Anyone that's willing to take the risk and give it a go. I never realised how hard it was to run a business and have a newborn until I was put in those shoes. So any women out there who have a family and run their business, I find them very inspiring.
What are you passionate about?
Outside of interiors and photography and work, it’s travel. I can't wait to travel again.
What dream do you still want to fulfil?
I've always wanted to get into the education side of things, and I'm finally going to launch my course, which is one thing that I've always wanted to do.
What are you reading at the moment?
I just got a book called “Verity” by Colleen Hoover, but I haven't started reading it yet. Usually I'd be reading some sort of suspense type of book, or a light easy read, like a summer romance novel, which just completely takes me out of the real world.
What are you listening to?
I listen to a lot of podcasts, mainly Nicola Dixon’s at the moment. She's one of my business coaches and I just love all of her advice. In terms of music, I am probably living in the past. I listen to The Cranberries and a lot of stuff from the seventies, eighties, and nineties. And then also just acoustic music, like The Lumineers.
What piece of advice would you give to your younger self?
Be more confident. You can get so caught up in what other people think rather than listening to your own gut. It's just important to be confident, give yourself a go and take some risks.
