Entrances that inspire

How do you feel when you step through your front door? This space sets the tone for what’s inside. Yes, it needs to be practical. But it should also inspire, and set the intention for how you want to live.

Every hallway should have:

1. Something to delight the eye
Try to look at your space as if for the first time. Where does your eye go? What draws you in? What inspires you? Ensure you include something (even if it’s subtle) that brings you joy. Try, an eye-catching floral arrangement, an arresting pendant or a statement chair.

2. Somewhere to lessen your load
When you walk into your entrance, inevitably you have something in your hands that you need to deal with — a coat, bag, pair of shoes… Make sure you have a designated spot that meets your functional needs. Try, a beautiful basket, console or hook.

3. An element that sets the tone

When you step into your home, the first space you see should set the tone for the rest of your home. It should include elements that are repeated throughout your spaces, such as colour, texture, materiality. Check that your entrance is in keeping with the rest of your spaces.
