Festive table styling
You are mostly like one of two people when it comes to the festive holidays — you’re already organised and have a clear vision for what you’re going to create. Or… you’re still racing to finish off projects before the end of the year, and haven’t even begun to consider your plan. If this sounds like you, I’ve got some simple styling tips to help you elevate your space, and make the whole experience a lot more enjoyable.
Here are 7 simple ways you can make your seasonal table special, without the stress:
1. Drape your linen. Rather than placing your tablecloth tight along the tabletop, create sumptuous layers. You can also use a painter’s drop cloth or flat linen sheet if you need more length.
2. Add a striking centrepiece. You can think outside the box here – it doesn’t have to ‘match’ the holiday to feel special. For example, a beautiful woven basket filled with foliage can be a striking statement.
3. Place a small present on each plate with a simple and fun gift inside, such as a chocolate treat, gift voucher, or surfing pass (insert whatever your guests would enjoy).
4. Decorate your gifts or plates with clippings from the garden. Stems from an olive tree or rosemary can add a beautiful fragrance. Similarly, eucalyptus leaves look beautiful and have a delicate aroma.
5. Add taper candles. This is such a simple idea but really helps to set the tone. Try using beeswax candles, which add a subtle colour and sweet scent.
6. Decorate with seasonal produce. Forget the tinsel and trappings, and use fruit and vegetables as decorative touches. Bonus, you get to enjoy them or gift them to your guests.
7. Opt for coloured glassware to make your table feel special. These amber glasses were from Imprint House (try these for something similar), but you can often find similar vintage styles at local charity shops. For a similar effect, serve kombucha or Aperol Spritz in a clear glass!
And remember, good music and mood lighting are some of the best and easiest ways to create atmosphere. Enjoy!
